Don W. Bradley, MD, MHS-CL
Don W. Bradley, MD, MHS-CL is Chief Medical Officer at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina and has faculty appointments and teaches regularly at Duke and UNC Medical Schools.
He attended the Medical College of Virginia and completed the Family Medicine Residency (and chief residency) in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He completed a Kellogg Fellowship in Family Medicine at Duke and a Masters of Health Sciences in Clinical Leadership at Duke 20 years later.
He has practiced in South Boston, Virginia and then at the Duke-Watts Family Medical Center in Durham, where he served as medical director for the 50-physician practice.
Dr. Bradley joined BCBSNC in 1988, first as an HMO medical director, and then in a variety of roles over time. He led the development of a variety of innovations at BCBSNC, including on-line medical policies, Healthy Lifestyle Choices, an office-based endoscopy network, and Bariatric Surgery Centers of Excellence.
His research interests include system approaches to improve clinical outcomes and satisfaction with care, including reimbursement methodologies, disclosure of reimbursement methodologies to patients, and development of collaborative physician networks and relationships (e.g., centers of excellence and clinical studies).
